Mungall Working for Healthcare in Our Region

As the Interior Health Authority and the Ministry of Health cut the Operating Room by 25% at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital, they further reduce health services to West Kootenay residents.

Mungall stood up to the Minister of Health when news of cuts to KBRH first came to light. Calling on him to restore nurses and the OR time, Mungall joined Kootenay West MLA Katrine Conroy in pressing the Minister for answers.

The Nelson and District Health Task Force has been a long-time advocate for restoration of health services in the region. In Spring 2009, 3047 residents signed a petition calling on election candidates to support a CT Scanner, a general Surgeon and 3 Intensive Care Unit beds at Kootenay Lake Hospital. Nearing the anniversary of the petition, MLA Mungall presents the petition to the BC Legislature.

The petition reminds us all that the BC Liberals have been chipping away at our region's health services since they took office in 2001. It further reminds the BC Liberal Government that we will never stop fighting for those services. Our region deserves quality healthcare that prioritizes patient safety.

Rather than the IHA and Ministry of Health fund a basic diagnositc tool -a CT Scanner, Kootenay residents have now taken up the charge. The Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation has been leading the community-wide fundraising for a CT Scanner at Kootenay Lake Hospital. To honour and promote the cause that will certainly benefit the whole of Nelson-Creston, Mungall delivered a statement to the Legislature.
