East Shore flu and H1N1 clinics

Thanks to everyone who called my office on Wednesday October 28 to let me know about the sudden last-minute cancellation of the flu clinics in both Riondel and Crawford Bay. This of course was terrible news that could have very negative impacts on the health of both communities, as well as our region.

What urban medical officers sometimes don't realize is that winter transportation in rural areas can leave communities isolated, and that's just the case for both Riondel and Crawford Bay. Going to Creston or Nelson isn't an easy fix to cancelling the flu clinics, especially for seniors and parents.

I asked Ida Chong, Minister for Healthy Living and Sport about the cancellation of flu clinics. Watch the video here: M. Mungall, MLA - Oct 29, 2009 – QP (Access to Influenza Vaccines)

My staff and I continue to work on this issue. We are clear that we want the clinics rescheduled in both East Shore communities. Stay tuned for updates on where East Shore residents can get their flu and H1N1 vaccines.

Standing up for the Arts

After attending a rally in front of the Legislature on Tuesday October 20, Michelle Mungall and colleague Spencer Herbert collected letters to the Premier from ralliers. The letter writers asked that their letters be forwarded to the Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services as submissions into the 2010 BC Budget. As a member of that Committee, Mungall will be sure to forward the letters on to other Committee members and request that they be included as submissions.
